food has always served two purposes. One, of course, for health and staying alive. The second, for ritualistic purposes. The ceremonies, rituals of various religions and peoples always involve eating and drinking, and in such instances, the foods and drink serve a symbolic purpose too.

The challah is so central to Jewish life and ceremony, that is a key item. Your interview, article, helps me and others to further appreciate the making and importance and love of Challah

Woman-you are getting a lot of mileage out of that $10 ticket to Punderdom. Love all the symbolism imbedded in the process and end product. very meaningful and also now I have a new game to play finding symbolism in anything I cook. This week I made a pineapple upside down cake - imagine what I can do with that inverted sweetness and the act of turning something in its head to find its true meaning and beauty. And don’t even get me started on what I can do with meatloaf “I’d do anything for love….” I wish I could take her class, sounds amazing! I love that her name is Randa! And I will never listen to those Hamilton lyrics again without visualizing that sweet dough rising for all the reasons we must “rise up!”

Did she give any insights into "challah is taken?" I've had that explained to me a few times but I always forget the halacha (rule) behind it, or what it is really.

Considering I have no idea what you're talking about, no, but I can ask!

When saying the brachah over the challah to “take challah” we say the blessing first over the large batch of dough, this resembles all the blessings you are giving to someone that is need of more light in there life. The purpose of the dough is this blessing. Take a small piece (a size of an egg) and state “THIS IS CHALLAH” this is my purpose for making the dough to create a blessing for someone. Wrap the dough and Burn the piece AFTER you make your challah until it’s burnt to a crisp. This will state that the blessing has been made! ❤️

Thank you! Do you know why we do this? Like, the basic halachic reason?
