I do tend to look on the dim side of things...is it old age?...but recall that after 9/11 there was a unity that was spectacular. And then? Great tragedies helps to bring peoples together if there is a shared connection. Disparate views within that shared connection often splits them apart. Think Orthodox, Conservative, Reform. We thus need to seek our common connection often rather than emphasizing our differences within our community.
